Camp Starlight Board
Melanie Smith Wilusz
(She/Her)
Elementary School Physical Education Teacher
I have worked in education for 23 years and hold a master’s degree in Special Education with a Physical Education endorsement. My career has focused on supporting diverse learners and creating inclusive, supportive environments. I have been involved with Camp Starlight since 1998, serving in many roles including Behavior Support, Program Director, Camp Director, and Board President. Camp Starlight has had my heart since my very first year—the incredible campers and counselors I’ve met along the way have made this journey a truly priceless experience.
Dr. Thomas Meyer
(He/Him)
Retired
My name is Thomas “Rock” Meyer, MD. I am a retired child and adolescent psychiatrist, and I have been volunteering at camps for children impacted by HIV/AIDS since 1993. While completing my training at OHSU in 1999, I helped start Camp Starlight and have remained actively involved ever since.
Kit Noble
(She/Her)
Retired
Originally from Bellevue, WA, I ventured to NYC in 1982 where I volunteered with children who were affected by HIV/AIDS. The organization I worked with helped recruit volunteers for a new camp to give some of these kids a week of joy, away from the stigma and fear that took over their lives. I volunteered. When I moved to Portland, the universe put some of those volunteers here along with me and through leadership of another organization, Camp Starlight was born. I’ve been involved ever since.
Dr. Sarah Green
(She/Her)
Associate Professor of Pediatrics, Division of Hospital Medicine, School of Medicine, OHSU
I am a pediatrician at Doernbecher Children’s Hospital and a long-time Camp Starlight supporter. I am eager to bring the joys of a supportive, inclusive camp experience to kids who may not have the opportunity otherwise.
Vicki Reitenauer (She/Her)
Professor of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies, Portland State University
I am a professor in the department of Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at Portland State University (PSU). My first experience with Camp Starlight involved facilitating writing circles during its earliest years. Following that, I facilitated several PSU Senior Capstone courses, through which students served as Camp counselors. I am honored to have been invited to join the Board in 2025 and delighted to continue supporting this dynamic, generous, and inspiring community through this role.
Jessica McClintic (She/Her)
Global Enterprise Business Planning Operations Manager, Nike
With a career leading global operational teams, I excel in driving clarity, structure, and accountable execution. My advocacy for transgender and gender-diverse youth has been informed by my own family’s journey. I work to ensure all young people have access to safe, supportive environments and aim to bring both strategic insight and lived empathy to Camp Starlight.
